The bawu is a Chinese reed flute from the Hunan Province. The sound is created by blowing directly against a small brass reed inserted near the end of the bamboo instrument – not dissimilar to a brass harmonica reed. The reed buzzes when blown, creating a rather ethereal tone. The drones used here are from sampled harmonium.
